It’s A Penrith Sign Of Getting On?

I’M afraid it’s a sign of “getting on” but I can’t quite believe the Lake District is supposed to be this hugely popular tourist area and yet road signs like the one above are considered acceptable to just sit and rust forever.

I spotted it near Haweswater and while it’s not indicative of most signs in the Lake District (most of which are green with mould), it is a pretty shocking example.

How does a road sign get into this state without someone noticing it or reporting it? I took a metal sample home with me which confirmed my theories…it was actually Roman 😉

* Since this post was published Tim Farron MP has been in touch and said he would write to the area manager for Cumbria Highways to try and get it resolved. (Feb 13th, 2015).
